Looks like yet another long night. We start the evening with another closed session on labor negotiations. This is followed by an important joint study session with the Planning Commission on the upcoming update to the Land Use and Transportation Element (LUTE) of the General Plan. This is a major undertaking that will take up a lot of our attention in future months.
The general session starts with not one but two special orders. The first is a presentation on the “Schools Goin’ Green” grant program. The second recognizes Public Works Week.
The consent calendar has a few things on it, starting with a contract for a consultant on the Precise Plan for El Camino Real. There’s a new dump truck – apparently we’ve been renting one whenever we need one, but various public works projects are going to make it more economical to purchase one than continue to rent. There’s a contract extension for the Stevens Creek Trail study. There’s a contract for handling workers comp claims. There’s an annual transportation filing. There’s a contract for the EIR required as part of the LUTE update. And so on.
Item 2 is a continuation of an earlier item – looking at this year’s work plans for the BPAC and Sustainability Commissions. Those two commissions placed some items on their work plans in a way that doesn’t seem to be normal procedure, so we want to ask some questions.
Item 3 is our semi-annual appointment of new boardmembers and commissioners.
Item 4 is a return to a study issue – adopting measures to increase local hiring in major projects.
Item 5 is another big one – considering the initial vision, success criteria, and needs assessment for the Civic Center Modernization Project. Staff has gathered up all of the public input we’ve received and presented some basic statements of principles for what will come next.
Item 6 is something I haven’t seen in a while – an application for a cell tower. This one is up in Peery Park.
And item 7 is the requested ratification of an IGR assignment for Councilmember Meyering to a National League of Cities committee.
