SUNNYVALE FIRE STATIONS MARK PATRIOT DAY
SUNNYVALE, Calif. – In September 2002, President Bush proclaimed September 11 as
Patriot Day in memory of the nearly 3,000 who died in the September 11, 2001, attacks,
and directed the American flag be flown at half-staff on that day.
2011 marks the tenth anniversary of this tragic event. To honor all those who died on
Patriot Day, remembrances are being held at Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety
(DPS) Headquarters and at each fire station. Beginning at 6:59 a.m. on Sunday,
September 11, in front of Headquarters, there will be a flag-raising ceremony followed
by a moment of silence.
At 8 a.m., each DPS fire station will also conduct a flag-raising ceremony and observe a
moment of silence. At each station, the flag will then be lowered to half-staff. A lone
bagpiper will play at the headquarters ceremony, then again at Fire Station 2. These
ceremonies are open to the public.
