Mark your calendars – the City of Sunnyvale will be having the Dedication Ceremony for the brand new Fire Station 5 on Saturday May 21st, 2016. This is a can’t-miss event, especially for kids, and an opportunity for the public to tour our newest, fully modern fire station.
Fire Station 5 has existed for decades as a single-engine station located at Mathilda and Innovation Way north of 237. As part of an agreement with the developer Jay Paul, the City entered into a partnership to replace Fire Station 5 with a fully-functional, modern fire station at its new location at Bordeaux Drive and 5th Avenue. The agreement has Sunnyvale swapping the current Fire Station 5 property with this new property (and gaining about a half acre in the process), with Jay Paul constructing the new fire station and paying for a new 100′ ladder firefighting rig (pictured in the flyer). The new Fire Station 5 sports the usual vehicle bays with modern ventilation, plus living facilities for the on-duty firefighters. In addition, Fire Station 5 includes a 25 yard tactical firing range for training our public safety officers. It has a permanent training classroom with modern A/V equipment for training and other meetings. And it has additional space for on-call officers who need to stop in to write up reports.
Note that our new rig plus two other new rigs all sport Sunnyvale’s new color scheme, as seen in the attached flyer.
In addition to the facilities constructed by Jay Paul, Sunnyvale has paid for an additional emergency services monopole (our second), which will be part of a new regional emergency response communication system.
This will be a great event, fun for the whole family. So don’t miss it!
