Sunnyvale cut the ribbon on its newest library feature, a library lending machine located at the Columbia Neighborhood Center at a small ceremony today.
The new machine allows patrons to check out books with a swipe of a library card. Along with the new machine is a new Sunnyvale Public Library book return box at the Columbia Neighborhood center. Staff is also trained to issue new library cards on site. This is a pilot project in conjunction with First 5 Kids Santa Clara County to see how well such machines cater to locations where space and personnel are limited, and it is also being sponsored by the Friends of the Sunnyvale Public Library, who have committed $5000 per year to fund the ongoing operation of the machine. I hope you get a chance to check it out!
