We received some complaints about the Wednesday Music Series on Murphy, specifically involving prohibiting outside food and use of restaurants’ bathrooms. The rules of the event prohibit outside alcohol from entering the venue, and security is supposed to enforce this. However, it appears that this was too aggressively enforced, to the point where non-alcohol food items were also prohibited. That is not supposed to happen, and staff is working with the Sunnyvale Downtown Association (who runs the event) to make sure this is clear in the future.
Additionally, some restaurants were disallowing non-patrons from using restrooms. This was also not supposed to happen – one condition of permitting Murphy to be closed to vehicles without providing portable restrooms is that restaurants are expected to allow non-patrons to use restrooms. Staff is also working with SDA to resolve this.
