The Sunnyvale Downtown Association will be holding its annual Christmas Tree Lighting this Saturday, December 3rd at 4:30 p.m. on Murphy Avenue. Events will include the Columbia Middle School Concert Choir, the Spirit of Sunnyvale Marching Band, the Homestead High Choir, and a visit by Santa.
As you may recall, the city had to cut funding for a lot of civic events in favor of next year’s Centennial celebration. The Sunnyvale Downtown Association took the brunt of the cuts, which created a problem for the Christmas Tree Lighting, since it was one of the budget items that was cut. But new downtown developer BRE stepped up and sponsored this event so that it could go on as scheduled. They’re the company developing the Town and Country chunk bounded by Washington, Frances, Olson, and Aries (and you may have seen the shovels in action over there now). I’m grateful for their eagerness to get involved and to help our our downtown.
